Why should you quit smoking?

While everyone’s reason for quitting might be different, several factors weigh in before a user might feel comfortable starting their quit smoking journey. That said, we’re here to provide some of the primary motivations expressed by our clients during our years in business. Who knows? Maybe there are some other external factors that you haven’t considered before that could bring you an added incentive(s) to quit smoking today!

Quitting smoking will lengthen your life expectancy

Smoking combustible cigarettes has the potential to take years off your life. The common misconception is that once the damage is done, it’s irreversible. However, beneficial health changes take place in as little as 20 minutes after your last combustible cigarette. Within 12 hours post-smoking, the carbon monoxide levels in your blood drop down to normal. One to nine months later, your shortness of breath decreases. One year later, your risk of coronary heart disease decreases to about half that of a smoker. Thus, ten years later, your risk of lung, mouth, throat, esophagus, bladder, cervix, and pancreatic cancer falls to half that of a smoker. So, as you can see, it’s never too late to wave goodbye and still reap the rewards of a combustible-free lifestyle.

To offer some perspective, here are the benefits in comparison with those who continued as stated by The World Health Organization:

  • At about 30: gain almost 10 years of life expectancy.
  • At about 40: gain 9 years of life expectancy.
  • At about 50: gain 6 years of life expectancy.
  • At about 60: gain 3 years of life expectancy.
  • After the onset of life-threatening disease: rapid benefit, people who quit smoking after having a heart attack reduce their chances of having another heart attack by 50%.

What are the best ways to quit smoking?

Since quitting cold turkey is not the best method for many who’re trying to kick their combustible smoking habits, it’s important to consider which nicotine replacement products you want to use before making the transition. There’s no best way to quit smoking and since everyone possesses different patterns, habits, levels of addiction, and preferences, you might need to try a variety of nicotine replacement products before you settle on one that meets your needs.

  • Make a plan: It’s important to know how dependent you are on nicotine, how ready you are to quit, and your preferred method to give you the best chance of quitting successfully.
  • Consider using a combination of nicotine replacement products: While products like e-cigs are the best nicotine replacement products for meeting mental and physical dependencies, you might want to also supplement your plan by including nicotine gum or the patch as well as behavioral therapies including exercise and group counseling.
