Study: E-cigs more effective in putting an end to smoking

What happens when you quit smoking and start vaping? While the answer to this question varies for everyone, this new study has shown that the use of e-cigs has proven to be more effective than other nicotine replacement therapies (NRTs) for those quitting combustible cigarettes. So, if you haven’t already, toss aside those nicotine patches and gum and get yourself a reliable e-cig device to put an end to smoking for good.

The study

The Cochrane report, titled “Electronic cigarettes for smoking cessation” concluded that there was a high certainty that smokers who used e-cigs were able to stop smoking completely after six months when compared to those who used other nicotine replacement therapies. Also, matching the appropriate nicotine intake from your smoking experience to your vaping experience naturally, led to higher quit rates.

What were the results?

What happens when you quit smoking and start vaping? While the long-term effects of vaping are still unknown, the report results showed that it did not detect any evidence of serious harm from the use of nicotine e-cigs when used to quit smoking. This means that when e-cigs are used as a smoking cessation aid, you have the option to lower your nicotine intake over time and better your health right away by removing tobacco from your life.

Data from the review showed that while 6 in 100 people quit smoking combustible cigarettes by using a nicotine replacement therapy, 8 to 12 successfully quit by using e-cigs. Those who replaced combustible cigarettes with e-cigs, reduced their smoking by about half within 24 weeks, which also reduced their exposure to harmful toxins associated with tobacco smoke.

New e-cigs are becoming better with nicotine delivery than earlier models and are assisting more people in quitting smoking.

What’s the Cochrane report?

The Cochrane report is an international network with headquarters in the United Kingdom. Its members are comprised of researchers, health professionals, patients, and people who are passionate about health. The network has completed 78 studies, representing 22,052 subjects from numerous countries around the world.

“Electronic cigarettes have generated a lot of misunderstanding in both the public health community and the popular press since their introduction over a decade ago. These misunderstandings discourage some people from using e-cigarettes as a stop-smoking tool. Fortunately, more and more evidence is emerging and provides further clarity,” said Jamie Hartmann-Boyce, associate professor at the University of Oxford and the author of the report.

Why is Vuse Vapor making headlines?

Anyone who follows e-cig news has heard of the manufacturer Vuse Vapor. That said, while many of our customers love these products, this blog is for the ones who haven’t tried them and want to learn more about why the brand keeps making headlines.

Vuse Vapor has menthol options

While no menthol e-cig has officially been approved in the U.S. for sale and marketing, brands like Vuse Vapor are working hard to make that happen. Since not all ex-smokers are used to the tobacco flavor, boycotting menthol products is harmful to ex-menthol users who also want to wave goodbye to their past lives with combustible cigarettes.

That said, in the meantime, vapers can shop Vuse Vapor’s vast selection of menthol options to fulfill their minty cravings and keep them smoke-free.

Vuse Vapor has lots of nicotine strengths

Aside from easing the transition from smoking combustible cigarettes to e-cigs, it’s important to select a brand with longevity in mind. Aside from obtaining FDA approval for sale and marketing in the U.S., Vuse Vapor also manufactures a wide selection of nicotine concentration levels. Not only does this allow ex-smokers to transition to the strength that best meets their needs when they quit combustible cigarettes, but this also ensures that they have a product they’re comfortable with when the time comes to lower their concentration level.

With options as low as 1.8%, as high as 5%, and many choices in between, Vuse Vapor has the best nicotine strengths on the market.

Vuse Vapor has multiple lineups to choose from

While some e-cig brands offer a single lineup, Vuse Vapor offers three different ones! Catering to every type of vaper, Vuse Vapor specializes in replaceable tanks to lower their carbon footprint.

The Vuse Alto lineup has the most choices in terms of flavor and nicotine strength. At the same time, both the Vuse Solo and Vuse Vibe lineups offer specialty nicotine strengths in both tobacco and menthol.

Access to JUUL e-cigs has decreased combustible cigarette sales in Canada

Last summer, findings in the study titled “Academy Health 2020 Annual Research Meeting” linked decreased cigarette sales in Canada to the entry of JUUL products into the marketplace. In line with these findings, another recent study has come to the same conclusion. Learn more about this connection below.

The study

The study titled, “The Impact of JUUL Market Entry on Cigarette Sales: Evidence of Store-Level Sales Declines from Canada,” used city-level data on cigarette and JUUL vape device sales in Canada. Researchers ran econometric difference-in-difference models to outline the variation of timing of the JUUL vape device entering the Canadian market. Data was then analyzed over 12 months.

What were the results?

It was found that within the first 12 months of market entry, JUUL vape devices led to a 1.5% decrease on average in store-level cigarette sales volume, within one large retailer chain. Overall, the decrease in cigarette sales translated to over 400 million fewer combustible cigarettes sold in Canada within the first year of this brand of e-cig entering the market.

Dr. Shvaani Prakash, JUUL Labs’ Director of Health Economics and Policy Research concluded that for every 1% increase in JUUL’s market share, there was an associated 0.5% reduction in cigarette sales. This suggests that local tobacco market competition plays a major role in the uptake and purchase of e-cigs. In addition, this study provides strong evidence that the availability of vaping products and other nicotine alternatives to adult smokers could drive down combustible cigarette consumption.

What’s next?

Rasmus Wissmann, Vice President of Data at JUUL Labs, said “further research is needed to determine the long-term impact of vapor products on [combustible] cigarette sales, and the net population health impact of such products.”

In the meantime, enjoy our selection of JUUL vape devices

3 tips for successful winter vaping

While winter conditions vary based on where you’re located, traditionally January is a chilly month across North America and beyond. As such, the idea of bundling up and heading outside to smoke your combustible cigarette can be daunting, which is one of the many reasons why those who quit choose to vape instead. Although you can safely vape indoors—away from children and pets—you and your device will still have to put up with the cold at some point. Here are three tips for successful winter vaping.

Avoid metallic tips

When temperatures drop below freezing, the metallic tips of some devices get extremely cold, which doesn’t make for the most pleasant vaping experience. Not only will they make your lips cool to the touch, but the warmth and moisture may lead to cracking or bleeding over time.

Vaping in the cold doesn’t need to be complicated, simply shop our wide selection of units for one that utilizes a high-quality plastic tip instead.

Monitor your battery

Even the most efficient e-cig battery cannot operate optimally in the cold. So, when the temperatures are low and you have things to do, be mindful of your device’s battery. We recommend keeping your device in your jacket pocket. Not only does this keep it accessible but it also allows the unit to stay warm from your body heat.

Another way to ensure that your battery is always good to go is to keep a vape charger nearby and to remember to regularly use it when the battery gets low.

Stay warm by vaping strategic flavors

While it’s a psychological premise, you can trick your mind into keeping warm with the right distraction when vaping in the cold. This means that if you have to be outside to use your vape, be sure to select a flavor that reminds you of warmer days. Basically, avoid menthol if you can and opt for smoky tobacco or a tropical fruit flavor instead. Perhaps you won’t feel the heat leaving your body quite as quickly?

Make 2023 your year to quit smoking

Just because January is the most popular month for users to try and quit smoking, doesn’t make it any easier to succeed. While wanting to wave goodbye to combustible cigarettes is the first step of a lengthy journey, having a realistic plan in place will ensure that it happens in 2023. So, since the new year marks a time of change and reformation, listed below are some tips to help get you started.

Understand that smoking combustible cigarettes is more than a habit

Is there a one-size-fits-all approach to how to quit smoking? The answer is no. If you’re on a mission to quit combustible cigarettes, we recommend taking the time to understand the habitual side of why you smoke, both physiologically and psychologically.

On one hand, you continue smoking combustible cigarettes because nicotine is highly addictive. When nicotine is absorbed within the brain and bloodstream. Over time, your body becomes reliant on it and will go through uncomfortable withdrawals if it’s forced to go without it for a prolonged period. On the other hand, combustible cigarettes become a mental dependency as well. Whether you use them to destress after a tough week or enjoy a smoke alongside your morning coffee, smoking becomes a habitual part of many users’ routines, making it more challenging to give it the heave-ho.

Identify and address potential triggers

Once you’ve made it your mission to quit, your success will depend on the strategies you’ve put in place. We recommend setting a quit date and journaling about what makes you think about smoking. If social gatherings are a situation that triggers you, perhaps communicate this with your friends and family and consider avoiding them for a short while so you can focus on how to quit smoking.

Try e-cigs or another form of nicotine replacement therapy (NRT)

Both e-cigs and NRTs—nicotine gum, patches, or lozenges—can be used to bridge the sequential manner to quit smoking. This is because both options provide the user with enough nicotine so their body doesn’t go into shock, but remove tobacco from the equation. Not only does this help the user to break mental dependencies, but it also allows them to lower their nicotine strength over time.

Your guide to which brands and products are FDA-approved for sale and marketing in the U.S.

While all of the e-cig brands we sell online at vape-ecigs.com are actively working with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to gain approval for their life-changing smoking cessation aids, there are two brands with units that are approved for sale and marketing in the U.S. This means that you can stop shopping around for where to buy a vape pen because we’ve got you covered!

From the Vuse Vapor lineup

On May 12, 2022, the FDA issued marketing granted orders (MGO) to R.J. Reynolds Vapor Company for its Vuse Vibe e-cig device and its accompanying tobacco-flavored closed e-liquid pod.

This authorization allows these products to be legally marketed in the U.S:

From the Logic lineup

On June 10, 2022, the FDA gave a second green light to Logic Technology Development LLC. It was found that Logic e-cigs benefit adult smokers, serving as an alternative to traditional cigarettes—outweighing the risk that young people would start using them provided the company followed requirements to reduce access and exposure.

This authorization allows these products to be legally marketed in the U.S:

Logic was successful in showing the FDA that their products helped adult smokers move away from traditional cigarettes, which reduces the smoker’s risk of exposure to harmful and potentially harmful toxins that are found in tobacco like carbon monoxide.

Since the FDA has taken nearly 6.7 million e-cig products off the market, we’re making it our mission to make sure ex-smokers have the best access possible to where to buy a vape pen.

“Strong certainty” that e-cigs are better than other nicotine replacement therapy for quitting smoking, review finds

Whether you’re a long-term smoker who’s looking to make a change or someone who’s struggling to quit tobacco cold turkey, this review offers concrete evidence as to why so many vapers stand behind e-cigs on their quit-smoking journey.

The review

Researchers from the international Cochrane Collaboration reviewed 78 e-cig-related studies, of which half were randomized controlled trials. In total, data from 22,052 participants were analyzed. Published on November 17, 2022, the Cochrane review concluded that there is a “strong certainty” that people who use nicotine-containing e-cigs to help them stop smoking are 63% more likely to successfully quit than those who use other forms of nicotine replacement therapy. Let’s take a look at the results.

The results

Six of the trials—2,378 participants—compared e-cigs to other forms of nicotine replacement therapy, with the results showing that 63% of them were more likely to stop smoking tobacco after six months of use. Of the studies that had users quit cold turkey, it was commonly reported that adverse effects such as throat and mouth irritation, headache, cough, and nausea were among the nicotine withdrawal symptoms.

Commenting on the review, Hazel Cheese, deputy chief executive of the anti-smoking charity Action on Smoking and Health, said “Pharmacists should be recommending vaping as a smoking cessation option…the updated Cochrane review gives us stronger confidence in the evidence and reaffirms the importance of ensuring smokers know that vaping is an effective way to stop smoking. ”

Why do e-cigs work so well as nicotine replacement therapy?

With such a vast assortment of flavors and nicotine strengths, e-cigs allow users to select a vaping style that suits their needs. This means that they aren’t committed to using a single flavor or strength throughout their quit-smoking journey.

What happens to your body when you quit smoking

Did you know that when you quit smoking, changes occur within your body in a matter of minutes, hours, days, and years after you smoke your last combustible cigarette? Since the process of quitting can be challenging for many, those looking to kick the habit may benefit from seeing a timeline of what to expect when they quit in terms of health and well-being. This is that timeline!

20 minutes after quitting smoking

Your body starts changing in as little as 20 minutes after you smoke your last combustible cigarette. Your heart rate drops and your blood pressure decreases.

2 hours after quitting smoking

Within two hours of smoking your last combustible cigarette, your peripheral circulation improves. Peripheral veins and arteries are located in the arms, hands, legs, and feet, supplying oxygen throughout the body. As your body rids itself of the chemicals, it will start to feel warmer with added circulation.

12 hours after quitting smoking

After just 12 hours of smoking your last combustible cigarette, your body starts to cleanse itself of excess carbon monoxide. Levels are then able to return to normal, increasing your oxygen levels.

1 day after quitting smoking

When you make it to one day (24 hours) without a combustible cigarette, your heightened oxygen levels can now easily reach the heart and muscles. At this point, your risk of developing coronary disease or having a heart attack due to smoking declines.

2 days after quitting smoking

When you make it to two days (48 hours) without a combustible cigarette, the nerve endings that are responsible for smell and taste heal and allow the ex-smoker to enjoy their heightened senses.

7 days after quitting smoking

Within a week of smoking your last combustible cigarette, your body produces higher levels of protective antioxidants in the blood.

2 to 3 weeks after quitting smoking

Having likely to have gotten over the shock of physical withdrawal at this point, two to three weeks after quitting combustible cigarettes, a person can then begin to tackle the mental side of their nicotine addiction. That said, exercise becomes easier to do—lungs are clear and blood is circulating better—at this point and can become a great distraction from nicotine withdrawal.

1 year after quitting smoking

It’s been a year since you quit combustible cigarettes. Your lungs have experienced dramatic health improvements in terms of capacity and functioning, making it much easier to breathe without exerting yourself. You probably cough less too!

5 years after quitting smoking

After 5 years without smoking, the body has healed itself enough for the arteries and blood vessels to begin to widen again. This widening means that your blood will be less likely to clot, lowering your risk of stroke. This risk continues to decrease as the years go on.

10 years after quitting smoking

After 10 years without smoking, you’ve reached a monumental milestone. Your risk of developing lung cancer is about half that of a person who is still smoking. Your risk of developing cancer of the bladder, esophagus, and kidney also decreases.

It’s no secret that the long-term benefits of quitting smoking are huge and since the sooner you quit, the sooner your body can start repairing itself, it’s never too late to start your journey.

While quitting cold turkey is easy for some, e-cigs are an excellent way to quit smoking. They offer a safer way to manage your nicotine intake and remove tobacco from the equation. Shop our wide selection of e-cigs here.
